About Me

I am very excited to start off my first year here at Carrollton Elementary!  Last year I taught middle school art at Phenix pk-8, and before that I taught and lived in Vermont.  I made the move to VA in the summer of 2015 with my boyfriend and two furry babies, Apollo and Bella.  My hobbies include making jewelry, creating art (of course!   I like to explore all art mediums), hiking, swimming, kayaking, Muay Thai (kick boxing), and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that in order to run a successful art class it is necessary to create a safe, comfortable, respectful, and aesthetically pleasing environment so that all students will be motivated to appreciate, enjoy, and create art as a part of their life. I want students to see art as more than just a required subject in school; I want art to impact their lives.  This may seem like a large goal but I feel it is attainable.  I want my students to grow as individuals and artists in my classroom through the 5 Cs (creativity, collaboration, citizenship, critical thinking, and communication).  I will accomplish this by creating exciting and relevant lessons, allow time for group work and discussion, utilize a variety of media to engage students with new techniques, integrate other subjects into lessons to cater to different learning styles and areas of interest, create real world connections, encourage creative problem solving, and provide every student with an equal learning opportunity by accommodating to individual learning styles and needs.  I feel that the foundation of student interest in a class is showing that you care about them.
